His mouth is dry and his throat drier. Machanu tastes the blood coming out of his lips. He bites his jaws, accelerates the pace while trying to control all muscles at his legs and tail. He dashes forward in full force.

Hanuman takes a deep breath trying to pull last few drops of energy from his exhausted body. He backflips to keep a safety distance while shaking the neck and shoulders to chase the pain away. Then, he tightens the grip of his compact trident, aims and throws it straight to his only target.

Machanu’s eyes fixate on the sharp object flying towards him. He bends his torso to avoid it. The deadly weapon misses him by inches and instantly cuts the lotus flowers with no sounds.

After a while, no sign of winner or loser. Machanu and Hanuman are now both taking rest and gauging each other.

Hanuman starts the conversation; shouting out loud.

“You poor thing, a monkey with fish tail, no one has ever made me fight this hard. Who the hell are you?”

“My name is Machanu, a son of Maiyararp, the giant demon king of Badarn city.”

“Well, you don’t look like those other giant demons I’ve met.”

“King Maiyararp is my step-father.”

“Don’t you know your real parents?”

“My mother, the mermaid Suvarna-macha, daughter of Tossakan of Lonka, told me before she left that my father is a great warrior. He is a son of Phra Pai, God of Wind. I will have a chance to meet him when time comes.

Hanuman grins and his bejeweled fangs shine brightly.

“You weird creature monkey-fish-giant demon; how can you tell he’s your father when you really meet him?”

“I never had a doubt. My mother told me stars and moons come out of his mouth when he yawns”

“Like this?” Hanuman chuckles and yawns.

Machanu understands everything in a split second. Tears of joy fill his eyes. He rushes towards Hanuman.

This time there is no counter attack. Hanuman smiles and wraps his arms around Machanu.
